Efficacy of coblation assisted surgery in obstructive sleep apnea with obstruction at the retropalatal level

Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) is a common disorder caused by abnormalities in the pharynx and upper airway muscles. Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) commonly indicated surgical procedure for management of OSA. Recent studies state that coblation assisted UPPP can improve outcomes : To study efficacy uvulopalatopharyngoplasty Sleep Apnea Syndrome with isolated obstruction at retropalatal level. This prospective before-after analysis was conducted Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital Royapettah attached to from September 2016 2017. After thorough examination, patients moderate severe OSA level were selected study. Institutional ethical clearance obtained all signed written informed consent form. A total 25 male predominance observed (80%). Tonsil size graded using Friedman grading scale majority had grade II tonsillar enlargement (52%). Based on tonsil Friedman's palate position, classified system. 11 as stage 1, 10 2, 4 3. success rate 68% following surgery based 50% reduction AHI criterion. effective Coblation procedures reduce postoperative pain therapy.
